Roscommon’s Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is working with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) to evaluate a building that has been vacant for over a decade. The former AuSable Drug building is located at 801 Lake Street, the building is in a prime location in downtown Roscommon. The DDA received a $60,000 Brownfield Grant to assess the building for potential contamination. This assessment will protect a new owner if contamination is found and cleanup is required. Knowing the condition of potentially contaminated properties in Roscommon County will help to incentive the property for reuse. The Roscommon County Brownfield Authority will be working with the local municipalities within the Roscommon County to develop a list of Brownfield sites that could be eligible for funding through EGLE.
